ACT Catanduanes Kicks Off at Baras

With its initial leg in Baras town completed Feb. 24-25, the provincial government has started an advocacy campaign for tourism, dubbed as A.C.T. Catanduanes, aimed at crafting a comprehensive and wholistic tourism development plan.


The campaign, being managed by the Provincial Tourism Office in close coordination with the Department of Tourism Regional Office V, seeks to make the people aware of the whole gamut of the tourism industry and enhance their knowledge on how tourism could be adopted as a development strategy.

In the island’s surfing capital, 56 participants from the government and private tourism stakeholders attended the two-day activity wherein the first day is devoted for lecture-series and the second day for assessment and validation of tourist attractions within the municipality as identified by the participants.

Advocacy Campaign for Tourism in Catanduanes Kicks Off

VIRAC, Catanduanes, Mar 4 (PIA) -- A series of tourism awareness campaign for the whole province kicked off late last month at the municipality of Baras which is anchored in spreading culture of tourism among the 11 municipalities of the province. The advocacy campaign which aims to familiarize the community with the concept of tourism and the whole breadth of tourism industry as well, in order to cope up with the common understanding with what tourism is all about and how its benefits can widen economic opportunities among the stakeholders. The tourism awareness campaign is a two-day activity designed to enhance participants knowledge on the concept of tourism as a sustainable development strategy, familiarize participants with the whole aspects of tourism industry, and promote adoption of tourism as an alternative strategy for development. Aquaculture Committee Okays 13 Bills

The House Committee on Aquaculture and Fisheries Resources has approved for plenary debate several measures that aim to enhance the country's aquaculture industry.

Rep. Benhur L. Salimbangon (4th District, Cebu) said the bills establish fisheries and aquatic resources centers, seaweed processing plants and Mariculture Development Parks in different provinces and municipalities nationwide.

"It is high time that the government move for the establishment of these centers, plants and research facilities to be able to preserve an ideal aquatic ecosystem which contributes a big portion to food security of the country," Salimbangon said.

The Mariculture parks, fisheries and aquatic center and seaweed processing plants will also benefit the provinces and municipalities economically, Salimbangon added.
