Power Supply at Critical Level - CT

The power supply for the Catanduanes grid fell to a critical level the past month due to the emergency shutdown of the 3.6-megawatt generating set of the Catanduanes Power Generation, Inc. (CPGI), the defect of which was set to be repaired Jan. 17. An official of the First Catanduanes Electric Cooperative, Inc. told the Tribune that the CPGI bunker fuel-fed Daihatsu genset conked out Dec. 5, with the firm reportedly suffering delay as the wrong spare part was ordered from its Japanese supplier. A Portent of Vicious Elections to Come - CT

<[> The annual Christmas Cheers celebrated its 25th year last December 2009, the series of entertaining shows dedicated by the organizers to the memory of its founder – the beloved Msgr. Jose "Ping" Molina, who conceptualized the shows as a means to relieve his typhoon-stricken flock of their feeling of helplessness and misery. Congressman Joseph Santiago may have felt entitled to do anything on his show (it was the Congressman’s Night for sure), having bankrolled the Cheers expenses for the last three or four years through his generous contributions. But what he did on Dec. 30 was highly inappropriate, to put it mildly. Over the years, the Cheers organizers sometimes allowed politicians to speak on stage; there was a time during the stint of Virac Mayor Cito Alberto when then Con…

DILG OIC-provincial director Arnel Renato Madrideo said Virac, with an overall performance rating of 94.14286, automatically qualifies for the regional evaluation. Placing second and third in the category were the municipal councils in San Andres (91.28571) and Caramoran (70.50000). For the 4th to 8th class towns, the municipal council in the town of Bato won first place and similarly qualifies for the regional evaluation. The evaluation team focused on the effectiveness of the Legislative Agenda, the effectiveness of the Legislative Tracking System, the availability of Legislative Documents, the efficiency of the performance of the Sanggunian, and the quality of the office set-up and staff complement. For the Legislative Agenda to be effective, it sh…
