Bus Ride To Virac

Numerous bus lines operate air-conditioned from Manila to Tabaco, Albay with trips running from 9 to 10 hours. From the seaport of Tabaco, hop on either at MV Calixta III, MV Calixta II, MV Penafrancia or MV Star Ferry to reach the island of Catanduanes via Virac or San Andres seaport.

Another option is to take RSL bus from Manila to Catanduanes which has ticketing station at Cubao (infront of Ali Mall) and pick-up station at Alabang South Terminal(in front of Festival Mall) or Ermita (Ground Floor, Trade Center, Padre Faura St.)

RSL Executive and TAWTRASCO bus departs Cubao to Catanduanes at 5:30 PM. From Tabaco, both buses board MV Calixta II which docks at San Andres port. The bus ferries its passengers to the capital town of Virac.

A Viracnon has done it again. For four Sundays of September, law graduates undergo the most important rite of passage in the legal profession: the BAR examinations. The Bar is a rigorous test of eight subjects, each testing the graduates’ knowledge, reasoning and writing abilities. One of the examiners in the 2008 Bar Exam is Atty. Juanito Gianan Arcilla of Marcelo Alberto, Virac. Atty. Arcilla prepared the Bar questions on Political and International Law. The said exam consisted of the following subjects and its corresponding weighted average: Political and International Law (15%), Labor and Social Legislation (10%), Civil Law (15%), Taxation (15%), Mercantile Law (15%), Criminal Law (10%), Remedial Law (20%), and Legal Ethics and Practical Exercises (5%) for a total of 100%. Second Placer 2008 Civil Engineering Board

Virac Daughter 2nd placer In 2008 CE Board Exam A daughter of Virac garnered a share of second place in the civil engineering board examinations conducted by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) last month. Raisa Lleue Molina Curativo, 22, got a rating of 98.95 percent, reportedly the highest ever received by a civil engineering graduate of the Bicol University-Legazpi where she finished her course early this year. She is one of the seven examinees who got the same rating. Two of her classmates also placed third with a rating of 97.90 percent, including BU cum laude Robert Christine Niebres. The topnotcher is the eldest daughter of DPWH Engineer II Nestor M. Curativo and provincial nutrition officer Marites Molina-Curativo of Imperial Homes Subdivision, San Isidro Village, Virac. Maid Tells Senators of Employers' Abuse: 'I Was Their Dog'

MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATED 1:52 PM) Abused housemaid Bonita Baran told a Senate hearing on Wednesday that she was held in slave-like conditions at the Quezon City home of her employers for four years, repeatedly beaten and tortured, and generally treated like “their dog.” Baran told senators it was Mrs. Annaliza Marzan in particular, who beat and maltreated her to the point of rendering her blind. Mrs. Marzan denied the accusation. The Senate hearing was the first occasion for Baran to confront her former employers, who had gone into hiding for weeks until they were arrested and detained temporarily by the Senate while the hearing on Baran’s case is ongoing. Mr. Reynold Marzan did not personally torment Baran, but it was revealed at the Senate hearing that Mr. Marzan had also abused his wife. 10 CSU Graduates Top Bicol Placers in Teachers Exams

LEGAZPI CITY, Jan. 16 (PNA) -- The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced here Wednesday that 10 graduates of the Catanduanes State University (CSU) landed at the top 10 among those who passed the recent Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) in Bicol. The PRC identified the top 10 passers as Carlito T. Gelito, Joan S. Guerrero, Jinky Lou T. Sarmiento, Ronald A. Teves, Ian Lopez, Eddie Cadag, Donna Nerisse Sapico, Aizel Cerillo, Melvin Fernandez and Daniel L. Alfaro. Gelito placed 3rd in the regional and 10th in the national levels; Guerrero, 4th with 85.80 percent; Sarmiento, 4th with 85.80 percent; Teves, 4th placer with 85.80 percent; Lopez, 5th with 85.60 percent; Cadag, 6th with 85.40 percent; Sapico, 6th with 85.40 percent; Cerillo, 7th with 85.20 percent; Fernandez, 8th with 85 percent and; Alfaro, 9th with 84.80 percent.
